Date of assessment: 26 August 2025 to 04 September 2025. Sutherlands Nursing Home is a care home providing support to older people living with dementia, nursing needs and people with a learning disability. This inspection was prompted following us receiving information of concern. We carried out this inspection to follow up on these concerns We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The service was in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, person centred care and governance in the service. Risks to people were not always well managed or control measures tested for effectiveness. Staff did not always receive robust training and induction. Mental capacity assessments were not always robust and lacked detail. Staff did not always feel valued. Governance systems were not always effective in identifying areas for improvements. However, staff, people and relatives were confident in the new manager and felt comfortable to raise any concerns. People’s needs were assessed. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities. The environment was clean and free of any malodour. In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to some of the concerns found at this assessment.
