Our view of the service
We inspected Sutherlands Nursing Home from 9th June to 30th July 2026, this included 4 onsite visits. Sutherlands Nursing Home supports up to 52 people, adults over the age of 18 years, people living with dementia, physical disabilities and people with a learning disability. We inspected following a warning notice we issued on 10 September 2025 for failing to meet the regulations in relation to governance at our last inspection. We assessed the service against ‘right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. During the inspection, we found some improvements had been made, however we had continued concerns with audit and quality assurance processes, as they had not identified the issues observed. Environmental risks included an unlocked and unsupervised kitchen with access to an unsecured exit leading to a main road, accessible prescribed thickener, incorrect complaint information, and poor handling of people's toiletries. Medicines were stored alongside an electrical switchboard and flammable creams without a fire sensor, and two fire doors did not close properly. We also found that notifiable incidents had not been reported to CQC. Care was not always delivered safely. People were not consistently repositioned in line with their care plans, a ReSPECT form was incomplete, and individuals were left in communal areas for periods without access to staff support. These concerns constituted breaches in regulations for safe care and treatment and good governance. Sutherlands Nursing Home had a caring team with the right skills and knowledge to support people effectively. Staff told us that they felt supported by the leadership team who were approachable. The leadership team were proactive with concerns we raised and actioned them during our inspection.During our assessment the home manager left the service, and the service appointed a new home manager.

We spoke with people about their experience at Sutherlands nursing home and their relatives. Not everyone at Sutherlands Nursing Home could tell us about their experience, so we carried out structured observations. We saw staff treat people kindly and with respect. People told us the staff were kind and that they could ask staff for any support they needed. A person told us, “I love it here, I am treated as a human”.
