During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment 16 May to 9 June 2025. This assessment was carried out as the service was previously rated requires improvement with 2 breaches of legal regulations. This assessment was undertaken to follow up on whether these breaches had been met. East Dean Grange Care Home provides accommodation and personal care to up to 30 people who were over 65 years of age and may be living with dementia or physical disabilities. At the time of our assessment there were 25 people using the service.
At the last assessment, the provider was in breach of legal regulations in relation to poor management of wound care, safety concerns around the environment and fire risks, poor cleanliness of the environment, negative culture within the service and quality assurance processes not always effective in identifying and addressing issues. Improvements were found during this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.
The service provided safe, kind and compassionate care. The provider worked in partnership with external health and social care professionals to ensure good outcomes for people. There was an open and transparent culture at the service and staff spoke positively about working there. Staff were trained and supported in their roles. A registered manager was in place who knew the service, people and staff well. The registered manager completed a number of quality assurance checks regularly. We recommended having more oversight over some audits to aid robust learning when things go wrong.
