Our current view of the service

Inadequate

Updated 8 October 2025

Date of assessment 13 to 22 October 2025. The service is a care home without nursing that provides accommodation, support and care for up to 3 people with mental health needs and a learning disability. At the time of our inspection 1 person was living in the home.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. We found that the provider did not always meet the principles of ‘Right support, right care, right culture.’

We completed this inspection due to concerns raised about the way the service was being managed. We found 4 breaches in relation to safe care and treatment, safeguarding people from abuse, good governance and safe premises and equipment

People had not always been protected from the risk of harm. Governance and oversight were ineffective.

Staff did not follow best practice guidance when assessing people’s mental capacity to consent and did not always respect people’s decisions. Infection control and food hygiene practices were poor. Audits that were in place were not robust or effective and had not identified the shortfalls we found on the day of our inspection. The environment was not maintained in a way that met people’s needs and preferences.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 8 October 2025

During our inspection we spoke with one person who used the service. While the person expressed that they were generally happy with their care, our assessment found aspects of the care planned for them and that they received did not always meet their needs or expected standards.

People did not always experience care that took account of their strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture, unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. People did not always receive person-centred care. They were not supported to access information in accessible formats that they could understand to aid communication. Overall, their experience of using the service was less positive due to the widespread failings in the overall management of the service to identify and sustain improvements to the wider care delivery.
