The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice. Previous areas requiring improvement identified at the last inspection had been met in respect to reporting, recording and analysing incidents and accidents.

Previous areas requiring improvement identified at the last inspection had been met in respect to accident and incident recording. Systems were now in place, and incidents were recorded on an electronic system. Staff received feedback from any incidents or accidents in daily handovers or staff meetings. Staff told us they felt able to discuss incidents with the management team and that their concerns were addressed.

The provider worked with people and healthcare partners to understand what being safe meant to them and the best way to achieve that. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety, free from bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, avoidable harm and neglect. The provider shared concerns quickly and appropriately.

Previous areas requiring improvement identified at the last inspection had been met in respect to sharing concerns quickly and appropriately, following procedures when an incident had occurred and working in collaboration with the local authority. Systems were now in place to audit, monitor and analyse safeguarding incidents and accidents. We saw that these were recorded and raised appropriately. Staff knew how to keep people safe and protect them from harm. People told us they felt safe living at the home.

One relative told us, “[Relative] lived here for five years, couldn’t be safer. Everyone knows her.”

The provider worked with people to understand and manage risks by thinking holistically. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them. Previous areas requiring improvement identified at the last inspection had been met in respect to people having risk assessments in place for identified needs. Risk assessments were reviewed within people’s care plans, they were detailed and covered any potential risks. For example, care plans documented behavioural needs for people and included coping measures and tools that were used to support people.

The provider detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. They made sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care. Previous areas requiring improvement identified at the last inspection had been met in respect to recording and auditing safety checks and ensuring equipment was well maintained and safe to use.

Regular audits and checks were now carried out and equipment was well maintained.

One relative told us, "[Relative] has quite a bit of their own furniture in their room so it’s homely. It is always clean and tidy.”
