45 Old Hinckley Rd is a care home providing personal care for up to 7 people with a learning disability and or autism. At the time of our inspection 7 people were living at the home.
The last rating for this service was good (report published 24 July 2018).
We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the service met these principles.
Quality and monitoring systems were in place to monitor the safety and quality of the service to ensure people consistently received good care and achieved good outcomes. However, improvements were needed to the kitchen to ensure cleaning was effective and good hygiene standards were maintained, as some areas were worn and damaged.
Risks associated with people’s care were assessed and staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe. Care records informed staff, for example, if a person had capacity to make their own decisions or not. Staff supported people in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.
Staff were recruited safely, and medicines were administered as prescribed, by staff trained in medicines management. Staff worked in partnership with other professionals to achieve good outcomes for people.
Staff felt valued and supported by the management team and enjoyed working for the provider. Staff had received the training required for their roles and had established positive relationships with the people they supported.
