Accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care

Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity

On carrying out condition (2) Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP must for each for each individual service user at Advent House, clearly set out in service user’s individual care files in writing, how their individual risks will be mitigated going forward, by the registered provider doing all that is reasonably practicable to mitigate the specific risk to the service user in question, this is to be carried out by the 07 February 2017.

Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP must draw up a Policy with guidelines that should be followed by all staff at Advent House, with specific reference to Health and Safety risks to service users, regarding the provision or supply of gifts such as toys (but this is not exhaustive) to service users and any other activities, (such as baking), that involve objects or materials, that service users could seek to swallow, ingest or enter into bodily orifices, that could place them at risk of harm or injury. The Policy should be provided to CQC by 8 February 2017.

Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP must carry out appraisals and directly observed competency assessments, regarding the competences of all staff (including managers) in relation to the provision of safe care and treatment to service users, with specific focus as to health and safety, and risk management at Advent House. This should include the staff who provided care and treatment to SU1, that led to the hospital admission. This must be completed by 14 February 2017.

Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP, must by way of governance and quality assurance, carry out an investigation and evaluation exercise, as to how SU1, who is currently in hospital after the receipt of stomach surgery, managed to swallow a splat ball, while in receipt of care and attention from staff at Advent House. This must be carried out 14 February 2017.

On Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP carrying out condition (6) they must send to the Commission a written report about how they will evaluate and improve their practices, and governance and oversight, in respect of processing the investigation findings in relation to the serious incident relating to SU1 . This must be carried out by 14 February 2017.

If SU1, is to return to the location of Advent House on discharge from Hospital, Ark Specialist Healthcare LLP, must provide to the CQC, a copy of his updated and revised risk assessments in relation to SU1’s health and safety needs, and within those care plans and assessments, it should include what steps you will be taking, that are reasonably practicable to mitigate the health and safety risks to SU1. This should be provided by 7 February 2017, or if discharge is imminent for SU1 (back to Advent House), you must provide this to the Commission, 48 hours in advance of him returning to Advent House.

Terms of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity

The registered provider must not provide nursing care under accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care at Advent House.

The registered provider must only accommodate a maximum of 10 service users at Advent House.
