During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up inspection on 30 January 2026. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an unannounced inspection of 175 Fore Street Edmonton London on 20 September 2024. We had found the registered provider was not providing safe and well-led care and was in breach of Regulations 12 Safe care and treatment, 17 Good governance, 18 Staffing and 19 Fit and proper persons employed, of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had strengthened its systems for identifying, assessing and mitigating risks. These included areas such as fire and premises safety, equipment safety, Legionella management, general health and safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), radiation safety and the management of medical emergencies.

The practice had infection control procedures which reflected published guidance.

The practice had effective systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents.

There were improved systems in place to monitor training to ensure appropriate action can be taken quickly when training requirements were not being met.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

The practice had safeguarding processes, and they knew their responsibilities for safeguarding.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and the required recruitment documentation, including vaccination records, was available for every member of the dental team.

There was effective leadership supported by a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff told us that care and treatment provided to patients will be in line with current guidance.

The practice is in Edmonton, in the London Borough of Enfield, and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

Whilst the provider offers a range of medical services from this location, we only looked at the provision of dental services during this inspection.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice.

The practice had 1 dental treatment room.During the inspection we spoke with the owner, the dentist, the dental nurse, the registered manager and the practice manager.

During an assessment under our new approach

Date of Assessment: 2nd December 2024. The service was previously inspected on the 27th of March 2023 and was rated Good overall. We carried out this inspection to follow up on concerns raised from an Oral Health inspection in September 2024 as there were concerns regarding Infection prevention and control and there had been a change in management.

During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this unannounced focused on site assessment on 20 September 2024.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Recruitment procedures did not reflect current legislation, there was ineffective leadership and lack of a culture of continuous improvement.

The practice did not have effective systems to manage risks and infection control procedures did not follow published guidance.

The provider did not have sufficient number of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Safeguarding processes were not in place and staff did not know their responsibilities for safeguarding.

The practice did not have effective systems to review and investigate incidents and accidents.

Whilst the provider offers a range of medical services from this location, during this assessment we only looked at the provision of dental services.

Due to the unannounced nature of the on-site visit, we were unable to gather sufficient evidence to report on the key questions of Effective, Caring and Responsive.

There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice.

The practice had 1 dental treatment room. During the assessment we spoke with the owner, who was also the practice manager, 1 dentist, 1 staff member who carried out infection prevention control duties and 1 receptionist.

The provider was not complying with 4 regulations. Full details of the regulations the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and appeals have been concluded.

175 Fore Street Edmonton London (also known as Medplus Clinic) provides an independent doctor service and is based in Edmonton, north London.

The service has a Registered Manager. A Registered Manager is a person who is registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the service is run.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Medplus Clinic on 27 March 2023 as part of our inspection programme.

Our key findings were:

  • People had comprehensive assessments of their needs, which included consideration of

clinical needs, mental health, physical health and wellbeing.

  • There were clearly defined and embedded systems and processes to keep patients safe and safeguarded from abuse.
  • The service was tailored to meet patients’ needs and delivered in a way to ensure flexibility, choice and continuity of care.
  • We saw evidence of quality improvement activity (for example, a recent clinical audit had reviewed antibiotic prescribing patterns).

The areas where the provider should make improvements are:

  • Take action to ensure its ultrasound machine is included in periodic medical device calibration checks.
  • Take action to introduce a protocol for sharing treatment and prescribing information with patients’ NHS GPs.
