How we inspected this service

Evidence was gathered through a review of policy documents and records kept by the provider; staff interviews were conducted; and, service-user satisfaction surveys and reviews were examined. The inspection was on-site and lasted one day.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:

  • Is it safe?
  • Is it effective?
  • Is it caring?
  • Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  • Is it well-led?

These questions therefore formed the framework for the areas we looked at during the inspection.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Ravenscroft Health, 221 Marsh Road, Pinner as part of our inspection programme. The provider had not previously been inspected by CQC.

The provider is a private musculoskeletal specialist service.

This service is registered with CQC under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 in respect of some, but not all, of the services it provides. There are some exemptions from regulation by CQC which relate to particular types of regulated activities and services and these are set out in Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. Ravenscroft Health provides a range of non-surgical interventions, for example physiotherapy, which are not within CQC scope of registration. Therefore, we did not inspect or report on these services.

The service manager is the registered manager. A registered manager is a person who is registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the service is run.

Our key findings were:

  • The service was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.
  • The service had systems in place to collect and analyse feedback from patients.
  • The service had strong core values and a shared vision for quality improvement.
  • There was a clear leadership structure and staff told us they were supported by management. Staff said Ravenscroft Health was a good place to work.
  • The service had a strong focus on staff wellbeing and had a comprehensive range of benefits available to them.
  • Recruitment, training and practice policy was well managed and up-to-date.

The areas where the provider should make improvements are:

  • Ensure fire risk assessments are up to date.
  • Ensure there is accessible information for patients on how to make a complaint.
