New starters at CQC

Probationary period

All new permanent employees are subject to a six month probationary period. This allows both the line manager and the employee to assess whether they are suitable for the role.

Induction and training

CQC Academy offers everyone the support they need to help us achieve our purpose:

"to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and to encourage care services to improve".

All new CQC colleagues:

All new starters undergo one days corporate induction. This is usually London-based so you may need to stay overnight. If so, our welcome team will arrange travel and accommodation.

Home based roles: IT induction

If you are a homeworker, you may need to stay in London for a second day. You will be given an appointment to collect your IT equipment and ID card.

Inspection staff: inspector induction

This covers and inspector's core responsibilities: planning, conducting and reporting on inspections.

It will help you understand the systems and processes you need to become an effective Inspector. We will work with you to produce an individualised personal development plan. This will combine:

  • taught programmes
  • shadowing
  • self-study
  • coaching/mentoring from a manager and buddy.
