All Inspections

31 January 2014

During a routine inspection

All people when they volunteer to be a blood donor (referred to in this report as donors) were required to undertake a health screening by way of completing a 'Health Check Questionnaire'. This assessment asks people about their lifestyle, medical history and travel history so that the unit can be assured the donor is safe and well enough to provide the blood donation.

We found the unit had systems in place to gain written consent for all new donors. There were appropriate systems in place to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. We found sufficient staff with the right knowledge, experience and skills available to support people whilst donating blood.

We found the provider had a quality and risk management system in place and the monitoring arrangements in place for ensuring people's welfare and safety were good.
