All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Donors were made aware of the process for donation through a 'welcome' booklet, leaflets and discussions with staff. Donors told us "even though I am a regular donor, staff always take their time to explain the procedure" and "I sign a consent form every time I donate". Staff had a good understanding of the procedure for obtaining donor consent. One staff told us "we always verbally confirm with donors their consent to donation".

Donors completed a health check questionnaire prior to donating, this included questions about people's life style which enabled staff to make a decision as to the suitability of a donor. The health check form included a section for donors to sign their consent.

We observed the donation process in practice during our inspection. We found staff spoke with donors in a friendly manner. Some of the comments from donors were 'staff are excellent", "very attentive", "professional" and "caring".

The centre was clean with no visible signs of dirt. We saw that staff followed hygiene practices such as cleaning their hands and using disinfectant whenever they carried out clinical tasks.

New staff received a comprehensive six week induction. Existing staff completed mandatory and refresher training which was up to date.

The quality assurance team carried out a number of audits to monitor the quality of service. We saw records that showed that equipment was tested periodically.
