During a routine inspection

We asked a sample of people who called NHS Direct if they felt that staff listen to them and gave them time to explain the reason why they had needed to call. Each of these people said that they had felt listened to and some also added that staff were very helpful. We also asked callers if they felt that they had been given suitable information about who they were speaking to and what NHS Direct could do for them. Those people who answered this question said that they felt their concerns or questions were understood by staff and they had communicated well with them.

We asked callers if they felt that the staff who they had spoken with at NHS Direct seemed to know what they were doing and what advice to give. Each person said that they thought that staff seemed to be knowledgeable about what they were doing. We were also told that they felt the advice they had received, either in one call, or after a Nurse had telephoned them back had answered the questions that they had when the had called.
