All Inspections

13 June 2011

During a routine inspection

During our visit to this service on 13 June 2011 we spoke to some of the people currently going through rehabilitation. They told us that they were happy with the service they were receiving, with one person commenting 'the staff are brilliant; really friendly', whilst another said 'they treat me with dignity and respect'.

We were told that people were involved in their assessment process and recovery plan. One person said 'I feel better than when I arrived', whilst another told us 'when I arrived I was quite destructive but they've tolerated that and worked with me to overcome it'.

We saw that people had positive relationships with the staff on duty and were able to approach them with ease. We observed staff respond to requests people made with respect and in a manner that was appropriate to their current need at the time.

The atmosphere within the unit was relaxed and calm during our visit. One person told us 'It's quiet and peaceful, which I like because it allows me to think', whilst another said 'I appreciate having my own flat, space and privacy".

We asked people whether they felt safe. Those that we spoke to told us that they did, making comments such as 'I like it here, I feel safe, the staff are great' and "I feel secure here, the staff help me feel safe'.

We discussed whether people were involved in planning their care and support and they told us that they felt included in their assessment and recovery planning processes. They also told us about the weekly community meetings that are held on the unit with one person commenting 'I like the meetings because they give us a chance to have a say', and 'I was involved in the meeting this morning which I enjoyed'.

We asked people if they were aware of the complaints procedure and whether they knew how to make a complaint should they feel the need to. They told us that they were aware of how to make complaints, with one person commenting "I don't have any complaints but I would talk to the staff if I had any issues because they are all great".
