Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance provide an air ambulance and critical care emergency response service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The service also supports other air ambulance services across the south region as required. The service operates under University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is commissioned by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance charity.

We carried out an announced assessment of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance on 22 October 2025. More than 30 staff provided direct feedback to the inspection team through a feedback form and interviews on 23 and 24 October 2025. Stakeholders provided feedback about working with the service. We also reviewed patient and loved one’s feedback.

We carried out this assessment in line with our assessment priorities as this location was unrated. The assessment was announced two days in advance to ensure that staff were available, and the site could be accessed.

This service had not been inspected before. This assessment looked at Urgent and Emergency care service, which we rated as Outstanding.

Patients and their families were overwhelmingly positive around the service. They said staff treated them with kindness, respect and exceptional care. They said they were treated as individuals and their decisions were respected. Staff made sure family and other people at the scene of the incident were informed and looked after. Patients said staff helped them feel at ease and ensured that they were comfortable. Families told us how they felt that the care their loved one had received was excellent.
