During a routine inspection

We visited and spoke with some of the people who used services on four wards: Bluebell and Foxglove Wards (acute wards for working age adults), Cranmer Ward (older adults), and Dudley Venables House (psychiatric intensive care unit).

People told us they were treated with dignity and respect. We saw that staff adopted a kind, patient and respectful approach when talking with people. We were told 'they respect space and privacy when discussing private matters' and 'I feel very respected by everyone here.'

Most of the people we spoke with were positive about the care they received. One person told us 'I like it here very much, everyone is so nice' and another that 'they treat me well. People said that they felt safe in the service. People told us that there were usually staff available when they needed them. We were told that most of the staff were 'excellent' and 'very helpful'.

The hospital had a number of buildings that had developed over time. As such, some of the wards were more suitable and attractive than others. There was a new purpose-built unit that people were positive about, and refurbishment work had been carried out or was planned in other wards.

The Trust monitored the quality of the service, and made changes where necessary. The Trust had a complaints process, which people were aware of. There was a dedicated team that supported people if they wanted to make a complaint.

Records contained information about people's care and were stored securely.
