Other CQC inspections of services

Community & mental health inspection reports for Wood Lea Clinic can be found at South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. Each report covers findings for one service across multiple locations

19 November 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with nine people who used this service, eight in depth. They told us that the service was good. The food was good and that they felt safe.

We found that the service was well led and had good monitoring systems in place to check quality. We observed sufficient numbers of staff on duty and found that they were genuinely engaged with people, were respectful and professional. People experienced care that was appropriately assessed. People were involved and informed about treatment and there were processes and procedures in place to keep them safe. Care and treatment was regularly kept under review and discharge was planned for at all stages.

8 December 2011

During a themed inspection looking at Learning Disability Services

Patients told us that they were involved in their referral and assessment and were given opportunities to contribute to the care planning process. This ensured that care was provided in a person centred way and patients' views were included. Patients were able to tell us why they were staying at the Coppice and the interventions used to improve their condition.

All three patients we spoke with during our inspection at the Coppice confirmed that they had a care plan and a copy was given to them for reference.

Patients were positively stimulated and a range of activities was offered for patients to take part in. On both days of our visit, we observed patients accessing the community. On the second day of our inspection all patients chose to spend the whole day at a local Christmas Fair.

Patients were able to tell us who they talked with if they had concerns. They told us that they were confident that any allegations of abuse would be dealt with appropriately. One patient said, 'I would go and talk to the manager'.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our visit to the Woodlea clinic on 18 May 2011, people told us that staff are nice and helpful, they chat and we are able to go out'.

People told us that there are forums for people who use the services, which provide a medium for views to be expressed and acted upon. We were told that they felt safe and were happy to approach staff if they had any concerns about their care.

We found that the people who use the service were clear about their rights and understood the basis of their detention under the Mental Health Act.
