During a routine inspection

We carried out a site visit at the service and reviewed the care at Windsor House over the period of a day. This was a joint inspection with a Mental Health Act Commissioner. We were joined on this inspection by an expert by experience. This is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. The expert by experience spoke with eleven patients about their experience of care, support and treatment during their admission at Windsor House. We asked people a variety of questions including questions about their care and support, medication, privacy and dignity, and if they felt safe. We also asked people to tell us their overall view of the quality of the service they were receiving.

The feedback we received from people was mainly positive. Most of the people we spoke with told us that staff treated them with respect and felt they get along quite well. People told us that there are lots of activities they can participate in and that there are monthly patient forum meetings.

Generally people had been given information and an explanation about their care and treatment. Patients we spoke with were knowledgeable about elements of their treatment, such as the medications they were taking and their side effects.

All of the patients we spoke with told us they felt safe at Windsor House. They told us that they knew who to speak with if they had any concerns and that they felt comfortable around the staff.
