All Inspections

30 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three patients and their relatives and / or carers who had received treatment on the day of our inspection. We were told the service provided was excellent and the care was person centred. Two patients when asked about what it was like coming to the dentist gave us 'the thumbs up' sign and smiled. One parent said 'It is friendly and the staff are so nice. We have been using the service for a long time. It makes such a difference not to worry about coming.' Another parent said 'The first time she came it was a struggle for her to even get in the chair but now she actually likes coming to the dentist.'

The patients we spoke with all had additional communication needs. We were told the dentists were thoughtful and took their time with appointments. One parent said, 'It is the approach they take here that is really helpful. Other dentists might not have the time to do that. We were told there was a focus on prevention and maintaining good oral hygiene to prevent dental work being needed as much as possible. We were told the dentists always fully explained what they were doing so that patients and their relatives could understand what treatment needed to take place and any alternate options.
