Ratings - Medical care (Including older people's care)
Our view of the service
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provide medical care including older people services at both the Epsom General Hospital and St Helier Hospital sites.
We last inspected medical care services at Epsom General Hospital on 19 September 2019. This was a comprehensive inspection. We rated the medical care service at this inspection as good overall.
We conducted this unannounced assessment on 2 and 3 December 2025.
We visited the following areas as part of the assessment: same day emergency care unit, wards and the discharge lounge. We spoke with members of the medical care team including junior doctors, registrars, consultants, band 5 and 6 nurses, healthcare assistants, matrons and the quadrumvirate.
We rated the service as good.
People's experience of this service
Patients, their families, and carers were positive about the care and treatment they received in Epsom General Hospital’s medical care department. All said they were listened to, and that staff were approachable. Patients felt communication was good and that they were informed of care options and treatment plans. They felt staff were visible on the wards and they saw medical staff daily and told us their needs were met.
Patients told us they felt safe and knew how to raise concerns and make complaints. Apologies were offered when care and treatment was not in accordance with hospital policy.
