During a routine inspection

This was an unannounced visit to Westmoor House. We spoke to nine people using the service and five staff members during our inspection.

Overall feedback was positive about the service being provided including "I like it here", "it's a nice place", "it's well run, I get on well with people here" and "everything is alright, no problems". People using the service said that they were treated with dignity and respect by staff working at Westmoor House saying "they're nice and kind", "yes they treat me well" and "the staff are polite to me".

We saw that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured individual safety and welfare but tried to ensure that the least restrictive option was provided. We noted the emphasis on creating therapeutic relationships that allowed people the time and space to take responsibility for their own recovery with support from staff.

Staff received appropriate professional development. There were arrangements in place to make sure that staff received regular supervision with their line manager and that their training was kept up to date.

The purpose built accommodation was seen to be kept very clean and well maintained. This was commented on by people using the service. The service could continue to look at ways of making the service more like 'home' for people given that some individuals using the service have lived there for a number of years.
