HMP Lowdham Grange is a Category B male training prison and is in the village of Lowdham in Nottinghamshire, England. The prison accommodates approximately 750 adult prisoners. The healthcare services are provided by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT).
We carried out this assessment alongside His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons who carried out an interim review of progress (IRP) to follow up concerns identified at the last full joint inspection in March 2025. The previous inspection report can be found here:

We assessed 15 quality statements over the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions.
We found:
- Staffing arrangements were improving following a significant recruitment campaign.
- Safeguarding arrangements were good.
- Patients did not always receive a timely secondary health screening.
- Medicines were generally well managed, but prison officer supervision of medicines administration was inconsistent.
- There was good access to nurse and GP services.
- Waiting times for substance misuse assessments were too long.
- Care plans were not always personalised to patients’ individual need.
- Staff delivered kind and compassionate care.
- The management of complaints required improvement.
- The service was well-led and relationships with the prison were strong.
