During a routine inspection

People on the ward at Millom Hospital told us that they felt "Well looked after" and "I can't fault them here, they're very kind." No one we spoke with made any negative comments about their care and treatment or the facilities and equipment in use. We checked the equipment in use to meet people's needs and found there to be sufficient and that it was being maintained.

We found that people received appropriate care and treatment to support their care and that the staff knew and understood people's individual needs. The care management process was being adversely affected by using two systems of care planning and recording but the provider was well aware of this and taking action.

We found that people were receiving safe, coordinated care, treatment and support in cooperation with others involved in their care and treatment. There was effective working with other services including social services and community nursing to promote planned care and promote effective rehabilitation and end of life care.

We found that the provider had taken appropriate and reasonable steps to protect people using the service from the risk of abuse. We saw that staff had been trained and understood the process and so minimised the risk and likelihood of abuse occurring.

From our conversations with management at Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust (CPFT) and the quality monitoring we saw on the ward we could see that the quality of the service people received was being monitored.
