During an inspection looking at part of the service

This review was to assess whether the trust had achieved compliance for outcome 14, which is about how staff are supported in their roles through supervision, training and appraisals. We had identified areas of non-compliance with this outcome in March 2011.

We did not visit the hospital to ask patients about this outcome, so we cannot report on their views.

21 March 2011

During a routine inspection

People told us that staff respected their privacy and dignity and were caring. They said that care was good but more people attending this hospital were dissatisfied with the waiting times to be admitted for care than those attending other hospitals. Some people who had been inpatients for long periods felt there were too few activities, but generally people were satisfied with the way staff supported them and responded to their calls. People were generally positive about the food, but that varied and again those patients who had been at the hospital for a long time were less satisfied with the choices. We were told that the hospital was kept clean and staff washed their hands.
