Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 3 March 2026. Croydon University Hospital provides a range of NHS hospital services. This assessment looked at Urgent and Emergency services. This was a focused assessment of safe, caring, responsive and well-led to follow up on concerns we identified during our visit on 1 and 2 April 2025. As a result of these concerns, we issued a warning notice on 24 April 2025. This was because the trust was failing to comply with requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
The service was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to privacy and dignity. We saw improvements had been made; however, the service remained in breach of this regulation. We rated the service as requires improvement. The rating for Urgent and Emergency services has been combined with ratings from other services inspected previously. Please refer to our earlier reports for a full overview of all other services at Croydon University Hospital. The overall rating for Croydon University Hospital remains requires improvement.
In our assessment of Urgent and Emergency services we found that the service had put in steps to improve patient safety in safe systems of care and in the environment. However, we still found concerns with the level of privacy and dignity given to patients.
