During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak with people who used the service as part of this review.

Our last inspection found that patients' needs were identified through a range of appropriate assessments and their healthcare needs were usually identified and appropriately met.

During a themed inspection looking at Learning Disability Services

There were seven patients at Alexander House when we visited. We were introduced to most of the patients and spoke with two of them in more depth.

Patients were generally positive in their views of the service. They told us 'They talk to me at my reviews about what I've been doing, what I should do and where I want to go after here', 'Lots of people help me', and 'I know all the care staff, I like most of them'. Patients said they felt safe at Alexander House. One patient told us 'I'm safe and I can look after myself' and another said 'I can talk to some of the staff if I'm worried about things'.

There were seven patients at Lindsay Close when we visited. We met all of the patients, although some were not well enough to give us their views of the service.

Patients had mixed views of the service at Lindsay Close. One patient said 'I am spoken to properly and I am happy how I am treated' and 'Sometimes things are not explained enough'. Another patient said 'I have been here five months and I'm improving'. Three patients told us there were some activities available, but they would like more variety and would like to go out more often. These patients also told us they did not always enjoy the meals served.

Three patients told us they felt safe at Lindsay Close. One said 'I would complain to a member of staff or psychiatrist or my parents if I was worried'. One patient told us they had been hurt by another patient at Lindsay Close and said 'All the trouble here upsets me'.
