During an inspection in response to concerns

During our visit to the Archer unit on 25 May 2011 we looked at the care provided to four people and spoke to three of those people. They were positive regarding their care and treatment during their stay and told us that they found that staff were respectful towards them. One person told us that time went slowly and they often felt bored.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to seven of the 16 patients and asked them about the meals they received in the unit. Their comments included: ' staff are wonderful' ' meals are ok not home cooking though' 'food very satisfying' and 'staff kind and caring'

People told us that they were comfortable in the unit and felt safe and cared for. All of the patients spoken to told us that they felt warm enough. One person commented on how much warmer they were than they would be at home with the snow on the ground.

Patients told us that the staff were helpful and very kind and would respond to call bells. One person told us call bells were attended to quicker at night which was good because they could be noisy.
