During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people on the day of our visit, one of whom had just joined the practice and could only comment on the length of time it took to get an appointment. We reviewed people's views from NHS choices, from the surgery's comments box and the annual patient satisfaction survey. We found that people could get an appointment within three to four days and that the average awaiting time on arrival for the appointment was five minutes.

People told us that they were happy with the care they received. One person said, 'The dentist gives a high standard of care with a clear explanation of the treatment given.' Another person said 'Excellent treatment. Staff are very professional and concise.'

Staff told us that they were supported by the manager and that they were up to date with training and continuing professional development. We saw evidence of appraisals and safeguarding training in the staff files we reviewed. Staff demonstrated knowledge of how and where to report any type of abuse. The practice was clean and staff were able to demonstrate how they decontaminated and pouched instruments.

There were systems in place to monitor the quality of care provided;, these included infection control, patient history recording and x-ray audits. Staff were aware of the complaints and the incident reporting procedure. Staff had up to date training on how to handle emergencies. Care and treatment was planned in a way that ensured people's safety.
