Chantry

Chantry is a 'care home' that provides care and support to people with a learning disability and autistic people. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. We carried out an onsite assessment which included 2 site visit days on 8 and 10 April 2025 and off-site information gathering. Activity started on 8 April 2025 and ended on 30 April 2025. The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service died. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident.

However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of risk of using equipment. This inspection examined those risks. We found people currently using the service to be in receipt of safe care.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ (RS,RC,RC) guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found people were being supported in line with this guidance.

There were systems in place where people had a range of opportunities. Communication tools for some people could be further explored and developments in finding ways to communicate better with families were on going.

People and relatives told us they felt safe and enjoyed their lives. Not everyone could tell us directly of their experience of living in Chantry. Those that could, told us they liked the staff and were able to say what they wanted. A person told us they felt safe to be supported. Families were an active part of people’s lives and visited Chantry often. One relative said, “The staff are very nice, they encourage [loved one’s name] and help keep them mobile.” Another said, “[loved one’s name] has a great rapport with staff, I couldn’t think of a better place for them to live.”

Our observations told us that staff supported people in a kind, and respectful manner. People were relaxed and content to be with the staff. Feedback we received from statutory partners stated they had an improved relationship with staff and management, and the service was responsive.
