Date of Assessment: 29 May to 14 July 2025. Riverside View Care Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 59 people, some of whom are living with dementia or have physical disabilities. At the time of the assessment 48 people were living at the home. This assessment was undertaken in part due to concerns received around staffing, nutrition, dignity and care for people. It was also to check the provider had followed their action plan and to confirm they now met legal requirements. At the last inspection, we identified a breach of regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment) due to unsafe medicines management. At this assessment we found the service was no longer in breach of the regulation.
We could not be assured that there were always enough staff available to support people. During site visits, call bells were answered quickly and staff were visible around the home. However, people, staff, some relatives and a health professional didn’t feel the home was always adequately staffed. Infection prevention and control processes were in place and followed by most staff. However, we observed a very small minority of staff who were not ‘bare below the elbow’ (which is good practice for effective infection prevention and control). We discussed this with the registered manager who immediately addressed the issue with the staff concerned. Systems and processes were in place to assess risks to people and ensure they were safeguarded from avoidable harm. The provider learned from accidents and incidents to mitigate future risks. Staff safely administered and managed people’s medicines.
Staff supported people with their nutritional needs and to access a range of health care professionals. Staff supported people in a kind, caring way and respected their decisions and choices.
The service was well managed. A relative told us, “I do think it’s well managed. There’s a lovely atmosphere.” Feedback received from people, relatives, staff and health and social care professionals about the service were mainly positive. The provider had an effective quality assurance process in place which included regular audits. People, relatives and staff were regularly consulted about the quality of the service through regular communication, surveys, meetings and reviews.
