We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 21 October 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Spondon Dental Ltd is in Spondon, Derbyshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 16 staff, of which there were 5 dentists, 4 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist, 4 receptionists, 1 support staff and the practice manager. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 10 patients. On the day of our inspection, we reviewed patient feedback routinely collected by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the wonderful care and service that has been provided over the years. I’ve been a patient since the team took over from the previous owners, and I can honestly say I couldn’t be happier. Our whole family has been with the practice for many years, and we’ve always been treated with professionalism, kindness, and genuine care. We’ve also had various dental treatments done and have always been extremely pleased with the results. It’s rare to find a practice that combines such a high standard of care with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I truly couldn’t recommend Spondon Dental highly enough.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “As a family we have used the practice for over 40 years and attend every 6 months. My experience is that the environment is always clean and tidy and the staff are welcoming and supportive when treatment has been needed. The children have always been well looked after and educated in how to look after their teeth at each appointment.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Comments included, “I have been a patient of Spondon Dental Practice for many years and have had some complex dental treatment during that time. I cannot praise the service enough. There is always due consideration and best options considered prior to any treatment. Everything is discussed and agreed and consent given with clear information on any cost. All staff employed at the practice are kind, courteous, caring and I feel that I am in safe hands. The premises are scrupulously clean and were kept so even when the service had the premises extended a few years ago. I have recommended friends and family who feel the same as I do about going to the dentist as it can be a daunting experience. With this practice, I feel well advised and prepared for any procedure and [clinician] and colleagues are reassuring and professional. I think the service I have always received is nothing short of outstanding.”

Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
