Our view of the service
Date of assessment 16 December 2025
Grangewood Lodge is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 37 people. At the time of the assessment 30 people were living at the home. The service provides support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia and/or sensory impairment and/or physical disability.
This planned assessment was carried out because we received information of concern about the standard of infection prevention and control in the service. This assessment found no evidence of ongoing risks of harm to people.
Minor issues raised with the registered manager during the assessment were immediately responded to and improvement actions taken. For example, the inconsistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment by staff during mealtimes was rectified at the time of the assessment.
The management team were found to be open and approachable throughout the assessment, engaging positively with people and their families, the inspector and professional visitors.
There were effective systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service and improvement actions were taken as needed.
The pre-admission process implemented by the provider was effective; discussions and visits with people, their relatives and professionals resulted in successful placements for people. Care plans and risk assessments reflected people’s assessed needs and helped staff to support people. Staff were knowledgeable about how to support people’s changing needs. The provider was able to manage support to be flexible to meet people’s needs.
Staff consistently demonstrated their understanding of the provider’s values and ethos through their thoughtful and kind interactions with people.
People's experience of this service
People were supported by kind and caring staff who knew them well. People were involved in planning and reviewing their care and were supported by staff who understood how to safely meet their needs. People were offered a variety of activities to participate in, both in and out of the care home. Staff knew how to support people to make decisions and promote their independence. Visitors were welcomed and safe and dignified spaces were made available for people to enjoy their time together. People and their relatives valued the relaxed atmosphere of the home.
Feedback from stakeholders was consistently positive and strongly recommended the home as a safe place where people were supported with compassion and kindness. One visiting professional told us, “Staff always go the extra mile to ensure that the residents have a great quality of life and encourage their independence wherever possible.”
