All Inspections

During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up on-site inspection on 29 April 2025. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an announced on-site inspection of Newtown Dental Practice on 8 August 2024. We had found the registered provider was not providing safe care and was in breach of regulation 12, Safe Care and Treatment of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had met regulations.

Robust prescription and laboratory work processes had been implemented.

The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the inspection we spoke with the owner who was also a dental nurse and the compliance manager.

During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 8 August 2024.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

Although the practice had systems to manage risks, these were not always followed. Staff were working outside the scope of relevant qualifications, competence, skills and experience.

Patients’ care and treatment was not always provided in line with current guidance.

Improvement could be made to ensure effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

However, recruitment and infection control procedures reflected current legislation and guidance.

At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required and were treated with dignity and respect.

The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 5 locum dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 trainee dental nurse, 2 locum dental therapists, 1 receptionist and 1 compliance manager. The practice has 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dental nurses (1 of whom was also a joint owner of the practice), 1 trainee dental nurse and the compliance manager.

The provider was not complying with regulations. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
