Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 09 April 2025 – 8 May 2025.
Little Acre Care Home is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for older adults, some of whom may be living with dementia.
It is registered to accommodate up to 14 people. At the time of the assessment there were 12 people living at the home.
At the last inspection in June 2022, we rated the home good overall and requires improvement in well-led. This assessment was undertaken in response to information of concern relating to staffing levels and the impact on care and safety. This assessment focused on the concerns raised. We assessed all quality statements in safe and well-led and a small number of quality statements relating to the effective, caring and responsive domains. We found the concerns were not fully substantiated; however, the provider needed to ensure robust oversight of the home. Following this assessment the service has been rated good overall, with well-led remaining requires improvement.
Mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions were not always recorded, and records of relatives who held Lasting power of Attorney were not in place.
No one raised concerns in relation to staffing levels, however the provider agreed to review the rota and the on-call arrangements to ensure there were enough staff to meet people’s needs in an emergency, as well as on a day-to-day basis.
Some improvements to the environment were needed, and work was in progress in relation to updating fire equipment. Lessons were learnt following complaints and incidents. Risk assessments and care plans were in place and were regularly reviewed. Medicine administration was managed safely. Staff said they felt well supported and enjoyed working at the home.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives were positive about the staff team and the care they received. People commented, “Im quite happy here,” and “Can’t fault the place, I’m quite settled here.” Relatives said, “We absolutely love the place, lovely staff and great care,” “They attend to all their needs, I have no concerns about the care at all,” and “The staff are absolutely fantastic, it is really very good.”
