At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People shared how they were supported by staff to have choice and control in their daily lives and were encouraged to be independent and to make decisions about their care, treatment and wellbeing as much as possible. One person said about the staff, “There is a group of them [regular care team], they are marvelous all of them. I had an input into my care plan at the very start. I feel comfortable and safe with them. I trust them with my life.”

Another person shared, “They are very flexible. I needed them to come very early, and they arranged it no problem at all. They are kind, caring and very efficient. I feel very safe with them. Absolutely superb.”

Staff encouraged and supported people to be independent. Care plans included information about what people could do for themselves and how to encourage people to be independent. A member of staff explained, “I respect people’s dignity by ensuring their privacy. I involve them in decisions about their care. I also respect their preferences. I encourage them to do things for themselves whenever possible and only assist if needed. I support them to be independent by encouraging self-care activities like, combing their hair, buttoning a shirt, letting them make choices in aspects of their daily life, for example dressing, food, shoes, and celebrate their achievements.”
