Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

 

At our last assessment we rated this key question Good. At this assessment the rating has remained Good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

 

We were provided positive feedback from people and their relatives regarding staff at the service. One relative told us, “I think all the staff are lovely and wonderful and I always get the sense that it is not a job as such, they are very caring people.”

 

We observed there to be several activities on offer, catered for people’s individual needs and preferences. One relative told us, “There is lots to do, Frank Sinatra, Church services, paintings and crafts.” We observed people who were able, mobilised independently and freely throughout the service.

 

The service told us they were in the process of reviewing all care plans with people and their relatives. One person told us, “They [staff] made sure that I have all the care I need.” People were encouraged to have regular visits with relatives, friends and family pets to promote people’s wellbeing. Resident’s meeting minutes discussed people’s likes and preferences around meals they would like at the service.
