Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 13 May 2025.
James Street Group Practice is a GP practice and delivers service to 33,267 people under a contract held with NHS England. The National General Practice Profiles states that 98.58% of people who use this service are white and the remainder was made up of varying proportions of people from ethnic minority groups. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the lower decile (3 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.

People were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the service took it seriously and acted on it. People received fair and equal care and treatment. The service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.

This focused assessment was carried out to review the key question of ‘are services responsive’, which was rated as requires improvement at the last inspection. At this assessment we have rated ‘are services responsive’ as good.
The assessment also reviewed the part of the key question of ‘are services safe’, focusing on the quality statement of safe and effective staffing.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed people were satisfied with services. The proportion of people who reported having a good overall experience at this practice was 59%, compared to the England average of 74% and 77% for the Integrated Care System (ICS). There was an active patient participation group (PPG) who represented the views of people using the service. Representatives from the PPG described how managers made positive changes because of feedback such as utilising the electronic town centre display board to display practice information. This ensured that people could access certain information without the need to visit or call the practice.
