Our view of the service

Newfield Lodge is a service providing personal care for up to 64 people, some of whom are living with dementia. Dates of assessment: 29 September 2026 to 8 October 2026. We visited the service on the 29 and 30 September 2026.

At the time of our assessment there were 46 people living at the service. The home does not currently have a registered manager. At our last inspection the service was rated good. At this inspection the rating has remained good.

People were treated with dignity and respect by staff who were compassionate, kind and caring. This was reflected in the care we observed. Person-centred care was provided in a way that ensured people had choice and control over their lives. Staff knew people well and responded effectively when people’s health needs changed, collaborating with external healthcare professionals. Staff described the culture as open and felt able to raise concerns with leaders and felt they would be listened to.

People were protected from avoidable harm through robust safeguarding arrangements and risk management. There was enough trained staff within the home to provide safe, consistent care. Leaders supported and encouraged staff to develop knowledge through additional learning. Medicines were managed safely and the environment was clean.

However, the leaders needed to strengthen routine checks so environmental and care plan inconsistencies are identified.

Leaders engaged positive with the assessment and acted promptly on feedback they received. They addressed concerns immediately and discussed ways to make improvements on their governance procedures. These actions demonstrated responsiveness and willingness to improve the home and outcomes for people.

People spoke positively about the care and support they received. They consistently told us they felt safe and well cared for. Comments included, “it’s nice [staff] look after us really well,” and “I’m quite happy living here.” Relatives also spoke positively about the care and support their loved ones received. Feedback included, “They are [resident] well looked after,” and “They are [resident] relaxed and comfortable.” Our observations supported the feedback we received.

People were supported by staff who demonstrated good knowledge and understanding of their individual needs, wants, wishes and their personalities. People appeared relaxed and at ease and interactions were warm, respectful and natural. People spoke positively about the food and could request alternatives.

People received support to access healthcare services and referrals. Staff recognised changes in people’s health and sought professional advice. Care was then adjusted when needed to achieve a collaborated outcome.
