During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 01 December to 11 December 2025. The service is a residential care home providing personal care and support to older people, some of whom have a physical disability, a sensory impairment or dementia. Cantley Grange can accommodate up to 40 people. At the time of our assessment, 37 people were living at the service. We carried out an unannounced assessment of the service due to concerns being raised to us around cleanliness, a lack of food and fluid monitoring and that there was insufficient social stimulation for people. These concerns therefore required further on-site investigation. At our last assessment, we rated the service ‘good.’ At this assessment, the rating has remained ‘good.’
We found the service was working with external professionals to maintain good infection prevention and control (IPC) practices. The service now had a full domestic team in place and staff had good knowledge on effective IPC measures. We also found the facilities and equipment met the needs of people, health and safety checks and environmental risk assessments were carried out to help maintain a safe environment for people.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns, which the registered manager investigated effectively. People were protected and kept safe from harm. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.
During the assessment, we did identify some concerns regarding the effective recording of some people’s decision making, in relation to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). This was feedback to leaders as an area of improvement.
People had support plans and risk assessments in place which often ensured risk was managed and mitigated. However, for 1 person, we found risk relating to medicines required improvement. Medicines were generally managed well. Although, we identified areas where improvements were required to records to ensure safe consistent care was provided. We did not find these shortfalls had impacted on people's care.
