Date of assessment: 27 and 28 May 2026.

Herons Park Nursing Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 82 people on three floors of one building. The home service provides support to younger adults, older people, people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. At the time of our inspection there were 48 people using the service.

This comprehensive assessment was undertaken to follow up on previous enforcement concerns and assess improvements since the last inspection. The provider was previously in breaches of Safe care and treatment, Safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment, Good governance, and Notification of other incidents were identified. At this inspection, the provider had made sufficient progress and was no longer in breach of regulations, and the required level of compliance had been met. We were assured the service provided care in line with the current guidance and we rated the service as good.

Care plans were person-centred and reflected people’s needs and preferences. Staff understood how to keep people safe and how to report safeguarding concerns if they arose. There was enough safely recruited staff to provide people with effective support. Staff had the training and skills they needed to support people safely. People received their medicines as prescribed. We identified some issues related to the health and safety of the premises. Leaders responded promptly and took action during and following the inspection to address these concerns.

People were supported to remain hydrated and to stay active where possible in an appropriate way. Staff understood how to support people to make choices and how people with capacity had the right to make decisions for themselves. Communication between teams of staff was good and information was shared appropriately to ensure consistency of care and support for people. Where people lacked the capacity to make certain decisions, the provider worked in line with The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA).

Relatives and professionals spoke positively about the caring relationships within the service and the welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Members of staff were kind and caring and people received care and support in line with their care plans.

People received responsive care which reflected their individual needs, preferences and diverse backgrounds. The provider recognised and respected people’s religious and cultural needs, which were clearly recorded in their care plans. People were involved in planning their care and making decisions about their lives.

Staff and people were able to provide feedback about the service, and their feedback was listened too. Staff told us they felt supported and valued by the management. Leaders demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and sustained improvement, using feedback and shared learning to strengthen quality monitoring systems, improve compliance and drive positive change across the service. Quality assurance systems were generally effective and supported safe, well‑managed care in line with people’s needs and legislation. However, audits relating to health and safety required further strengthening to ensure they consistently identified and addressed areas for improvement. Leaders responded promptly and took action during and following the inspection to address these concerns. The service submitted notifications to CQC as required. The rating for the service was on display.
