This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
We observed staff and managers engaging with people in a friendly and respectful manner. Staff spoke about how they had developed positive relationships with people. People spoke positively about the staff who supported them.
Treating people as individuals
People’s care plans and risk assessments were person-centred. They included information about people’s histories, abilities, cultural and religious needs, preferences, and how and when they wished to be supported. The care plans included guidance for staff to ensure people’s individual preferences were followed when providing support. People confirmed staff provided care and support in accordance with their wishes.
Independence, choice and control
People were encouraged to do as much as they could for themselves. Staff assisted them to plan their activities and to agree the level of support they required. All the people we spoke with told us their experiences of the service was good. One person said, “They’ve helped me do things I’ve never done before.” Staff told us, “It’s mostly prompting and reminding,” and, “We do things with people rather than for them.”
Responding to people’s immediate needs
People’s daily notes were detailed and contained information about how staff had supported people with their needs and wishes. People told us they received support from staff when they required it. A person said, “There is always someone around when I need them.” Staff confirmed they always had time for people. A staff member told us, “Most people are quite independent, but we always need to be alert to changes in mood as they don’t always tell us when they are having problems.”
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The provider understood the importance of supporting a work-life balance for staff and providing reasonable adjustments to support them where necessary. Staff told us they considered the support they received in their roles was very good. One staff member said, “I never have a problem asking for support if I need it and I know [managers] would help me with this.”
