All Inspections

10 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We saw staff interacted with the one person who received care in a caring, respectful and professional manner. We observed members of staff sought people's agreement before providing any support or assistance. We asked the person who used the service if they were treated well; they replied, 'Yes, I am, very well.'

We saw a daily journal was completed for the person and that incidents had been recorded. The person told us, 'I read the notes every day and sign them.'

We saw assessments of the person's mental capacity had taken place and details of an independent advocate were provided to the person.

A member of staff told us the person was encouraged to buy and prepare a wide range of hot and cold meals. A member of staff told us, 'We try to get XXX to eat fresh food but they have chosen to mostly eat ready meals.'

The service had clear policies and procedures in place that provided staff with guidance to follow if an incident of abuse was reported or suspected.

We asked the person who received care if they felt safe; they told us, 'Yes, I do, I feel very safe and secure.'

We were able to confirm that staff were provided with training the provider felt appropriate to the person's needs such as moving and handling, fire safety and infection control.

We confirmed the person who received care had access to the complaints policy within their own home. The person told us, 'Yes, I would know how to complain; I can always ring the manager anyway.'
