During an assessment under our new approach
Dates of assessment were from 18 September to 17 October 2025. The assessment was triggered in response to risk and included visits to the service on 18 September and 8 and 9 October 2025. One of these visits was conducted outside of normal working hours. Beechwood is a care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 27 people, some of whom are living with dementia, have mental health needs, a physical disability or people with autism or a learning disability. At the time of our assessment there were 21 people living at the service.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
We identified 2 breaches of regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance.
Medicines were not managed safely. Care records were not consistently accurate or reflective of people’s needs. Risks to people were not always managed and mitigated. Governance systems failed to identify or address these issues.
Pre-admission assessments were detailed, however involvement in care plans was inconsistent. Staff knew people well and treated them with kindness and respect and demonstrated compassion. Rooms were personalised, promoting individuality. Good standards of hygiene and cleanliness were maintained. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and staff worked well together as a team. People, relatives and staff spoke positively about the management of the service, who they said were approachable and supportive.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
