Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 3

Communication was a theme throughout our inspection indicating it was not always consistently clear and robust. The provider had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate. However, communication was an issue raised by many people and relatives. Although this was addressed, onward monitoring was required to ensure this improvement was embedded within the service.

During our visit we observed visitors using the code to the front door to let themselves out. We also observed visitors not always signing in or out. This posed a risk to the safety of people and also a risk to emergency services, should an evacuation be required, as an up-to-date list of those within the service would not be available. The management team changed the code to the front door for staff only and also reviewed signing in/out procedures with staff for visitors attending he service.

During the visit to the service, we observed excessive heat in laundry areas and in some communal and bedroom areas. The management team acted on feedback and purchased fans for throughout the home and asked their estates team to attend and review laundry cooling systems.
