Inspection Summary

Overall summary & rating

Good

Updated 27 November 2020

Mapleton Court is a care home providing accommodation and personal care to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The service can support up to 60 people in three adapted buildings.

We found the following examples of good practice.

• The premises were clean and well maintained. Four hourly cleaning schedules had been introduced, which included tasks such as sanitising key code panels and light switches.

• All staff had received recent training in infection control and prevention and their competency in this was regularly checked by managers.

• Visits were restricted at the time of this inspection. Relatives and friends were kept informed of any visiting restrictions and the guidelines they were expected to follow.

• Comprehensive, person centred care records were completed with the person on admission to the service. The records included detailed risk assessments with clear guidance for staff. One of the risk assessments was for 'Support following Positive Coronavirus test (not requiring hospital care)'.

• As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic additional actions had been taken to further reduce the risk of the spread of infections. Staff were allocated to work in only one of the two units. New procedures had been implemented to restrict access to internal communal work spaces, such as the kitchen.

We were assured that this service met good infection prevention and control guidelines as a designated care setting.
