Beechfields Nursing Home is a care home providing support to people who may be living with a dementia, a physical disability and or a sensory impairment. The inspection took place on Wednesday 5 March and Tuesday 11 March 2025. Final feedback was given on Monday 17 March 2025 at the service at the request of the provider. The inspection was undertaken to follow up on enforcement action issued following the previous inspection in January 2024.
Following our last inspection, conditions were imposed on the provider’s registration to ensure improvements were made in relation to the management of people’s medicines, safeguarding processes, dignity, risk management and the governance of the service. During this inspection whilst we found some improvements were made and therefore some conditions were met, the provider had not yet fully met the requirements of all the conditions, and we still found 3 breaches of regulation.
Staff knew how to recognise and report concerns, however, there needed to be more clear, robust processes in place to ensure safeguarding concerns were referred to external agencies where needed. Medicine management had improved, however there were still some errors occurring and these had not been identified in audits.
The management team had made improvements across the service and had produced an action plan to detail on-going improvements. The management team were working with the staff team to create an on-going culture of openness and positivity. However, there were still on-going improvements which needed to be made to support the governance, quality and safety of the service.
People’s risks were managed well by staff who had been recruited in a safe way and had received relevant and appropriate training. Staff understood the importance of consent and empowered people to be involved in their own care and to make their own decisions based on their individual preferences and wishes. People’s care plans were person centred.
This service has been in Special Measures since January 2024. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.
In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.
