All Inspections

30 April 2019

During a routine inspection

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Dodworth Medical Centre on 30 April 2019 to follow up a practice in special measures.

At the last inspection, under the previous provider, Dodworth Medical Practice was rated as inadequate overall, for being safe and well led and for all population groups. Effective and responsive were rated as requires improvement and there was not sufficient evidence to rate caring.  The practice was placed into special measures in September 2018.

The new provider, The Grove Medical Practice, took over the practice on 1 April 2019.

We based our judgement of the quality of care at this service, for this inspection, on a combination of:

  • what we found when we inspected
  • information from the provider, patients, the public and other organisations.

We have not rated this practice overall. This is because the provider had recently taken over the service and the majority of staff who provided care to patients were new and there was not enough evidence to rate effective, caring and responsive.  The practice is rated good for safe and being well-led.

We found that since April 2019:

  • The practice provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm.
  • Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.
  • Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.
  • The practice organised and delivered services to meet patients’ needs. Patients could access care and treatment in a timely way.
  • The way the practice was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centre care.

Whilst we found no breaches of regulations, the provider should:

  • Implement a process to record actions taken as a result of safety alerts.
  • Continue to review telephone access to the practice and internal telephone systems.

I am taking this service out of special measures. This recognises the improvements made to the quality of care provided by this service since 1 April 2019.

We will follow up the unrated domains and population groups during an inspection at a later date.

Details of our findings and the evidence supporting our ratings are set out in the evidence tables.
