Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence.

At our last assessment we rated this key question requires improvement. At this assessment the rating has changed to good.

This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.

People and relatives confirmed their needs were assessed and felt involved with this process.

Care plans and risk assessments were now in place and staff had worked with people and those important to them to develop these. People’s care was regularly reviewed to ensure it was up to date.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

The provider planned and delivered people’s care and treatment with them, including what was important and mattered to them.

The registered manager told us staff had received further training that related to our ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance since our last inspection, staff told us they had received this training and this had helped them to understand people who had a learning disability.

There was also a system in place which used evidence-based tools to assess people’s needs. A variety of assessment tools were available if needed to ensure people’s needs were identified and met, including falls risk assessments and pressure monitoring tools. Staff were aware of these outcomes to ensure they delivered the care that people needed.

How staff, teams and services work together

The provider worked well across teams and services to support people.

There was a system in place to ensure the staff team worked together. They shared information about people both verbally and in the form of notes. Staff told us they felt this was effective and helped them support people effectively.

Supporting people to live healthier lives

The provider supported people to manage their health needs.

Staff were aware of people’s health needs and the support they may need.

People’s health needs were assessed, and plans were in place to monitor these conditions where needed. People had access to health professionals when needed.

Monitoring and improving outcomes

The provider routinely monitored people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it.

There were systems in place to ensure people’s needs were identified, assessed and reviewed to ensure positive outcomes were achieved for people. Staff confirmed they were aware of people’s assessed needs and how they delivered support in line with this.

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment.

Improvements had been made and capacity assessments and best interest decisions were in place when needed to ensure the Mental Capacity Act 2005 was applied. Staff had received training in this area and were aware of the processes to follow.
