Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 2 to 16 September 2025.

Napier Lodge Limited is a care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 17 people. At the time of the assessment 16 older people were living at the service some of whom may live with dementia.

Staff treated people as individuals, with kindness and compassion. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends.

People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy and enjoyed a varied diet.

People were involved in decisions about their care. Risks were identified, documented and people’s care records contained detailed information to enable staff to respond to people’s needs and preferences.

Staff recruitment processes meant staff were suitable for their roles and supported people safely. Staff had a good understanding of safeguarding processes and respected people’s wishes. Where people were unable to make their own decisions, they were supported in-line with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Staff were fully committed to providing a person-centred service. Staff were proud to work for the service and said they felt supported by the whole management team.

The provider ensured people could access external health professionals if the need arose and information was appropriately provided to support continuity of care.

The provider extended compassion and empathy to people, their families and staff and encouraged an inclusive environment where respect, caring and the removal of barriers was promoted.

Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Audit and quality systems drove continuous improvement and medicines were safely managed.

A staff member told us, “Managers oversee everything. They're always aware of everything happening here. We work shoulder to shoulder.”

People's experience of this service

The outcomes for people receiving care and support were good and we received positive feedback from people and relatives about the care provided.

People told us they felt safe and were fully involved in the planning of their care. People and relatives knew about their care plans and felt they could contribute to changes and raise concerns if they needed.

People felt staff were kind, respectful and treated them well, upholding their dignity. Staff respected people’s rights, and consent was sought prior to providing support.

A relative described staff as “dedicated and wonderfully caring.”

People knew how to raise concerns or make suggestions for improvement, and it was evident people and relatives knew management well.

The feedback received from people and relatives was overwhelmingly positive. A relative told us, “I couldn’t ask for more, they really do everything they can to support me as well as [Person].”

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care.
