All Inspections

15 January 2014

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection the provider did not have a registered manager in post. We met with three people who lived at the home, four of the staff on duty and the manager. We spent time in the home and observed the interaction between staff and people who lived at the home.

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Staff told us that: 'They (people) have a choice to accept care or not. We would record that'.

People's needs had been assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. Staff told us they were aware of each person's needs and how to give care and support to meet those needs. When we spoke with staff they told us: 'They (people) are all individual and we respect that'.

People who lived at the home were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

The provider was able to demonstrate that they listened to people who lived at the home and regularly reviewed and monitored the care to make sure people received appropriate care.
